TED BERGLUND first came to Berlin in 1999 when he transferred into the class of Georg Baselitz at the HdK Berlin. There he completed the studies he had begun at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh PA.
As a student Berglund concentrated on making paintings of the figure. In 2003 he abandoned figure painting and focused instead on making abstract paintings, drawings and objects of various kinds.
In 2023 he returned to painting portraits, now informed by the depth of his dive into abstraction. The series FRISKY RASCALS embody, showcase, and display his sitters through Berglund‘s futuristic lens and show how paint can be used in madly innovative ways, capturing not only likeness but also extreme intimacy and presence, all the while displaying a powerful psychological understanding of his subject.
In 2024, Berglund created a performance piece showcasing his poetry and is currently expanding his practice into readings, singing, and performing both alone and with support.
BASELINEPSYCHOSIS is the fine art collective he is currently developing. Their goal is to alter global psyche through fine art happenings events and interventions.
